#728 new task

profile lost: running nicotine+ from source tree means no profile/"fast configure" when opening it (same with .deb)

Reported by: anonymous Owned by: quinox
Priority: normal Milestone: Release 1.3.0
Component: nicotine Version: 1.2.16
Keywords: profile, fast configure, no save, lost Cc:

1.2.16 source tar.gz a manual within the package states that instead of installing the source the user should run

python ./nicotine (it's btw)

from source tree.

this works well, but i still have the problem that fast configure comes on because my profile gets lost every time i reopen nicotine+.

im running ubuntu 10.04 and tried the deb file for 1.2.16 before, but the same problem appeared there. my old .nicotine folder in my /home/usrname is still there (from version 1.2.12 i think), but it seems that nicotine can't save into it since only old messages/chats are stored in the logfiles, and new ones don't get saved.

im really not that bright to figure it out myself, maybe someone can point out what the problem might be?

searched tickets for "profile" but only one - closed - ticket showed up. there they state that using the source would probably work...well, it didnt so far, and i guess it doesnt matter that i "only" run nicotine+ from the source tree instead of installing it, right?

I'm not aware of any problems associating with this. A few things you can try:

  • Run N+ from a terminal. Perhaps some serious errors scroll by there
  • Move ~/.nicotine to ~/.nicotine-old and see if a new profile can remember its settings

(Fixed the manual with r1466.)
