#343 new defect

Some questions and proposes

Reported by: none-nobody@… Owned by: quinox
Priority: major Milestone: Release 1.3.0
Component: nicotine Version: 1.2.10

I'm use nicotine+ about a halfyear and at most satisfied with it and don't think return on soulseek.

But some problems presented:

  1. Ports in firewall are open, but my files can't find through general search any soulseek users (and some banned me because of it :)), but search in friends found my files, like browseshare request. What must i do to fix it?
  1. I'm russian, so use cyrillc codepage (cp-1251) in Windows (XP SP-3), but other russians soulseek users can't read names of my directories and files. I'd try all (utf-8,7,16) and cyrillic codepages (ISO-8859-5, mac-cyrillic, cp-1251, cp-866 and koi8-r) - nothing helps. What can i do? (How i'd understand, any *.db file use utf-8 and program simply not convert it to cp-1251).
  1. Similar problem happened, when i download directories with non-english chars in it (Local file error). To fix it i may create target dir by hands and download be successful or change in config any escape-chars (
xff and such), but it not that way we need. What can i do too?

Some proposes:

  1. Both (download and upload) panes requires cross-additions - autoclear finished check-box on first and autofix failed - on second.
  1. Clear/skip filtered when put files in queue.
  1. Add possibility to edit wishlist and start search from it (to debugging).
  1. Full regular expression in search (any flavor - Pyton or PCRE), not only in filters.
  1. Add possibility to save column width between sessions.

Thanks you for program and (in advance) for help!

  1. Try checking the box for "I can receive direct connections" in Settings > Server.

If that doesn't help, you have have Buddy-Only sharing enabled. See Settings > Shares. If you wish to share with everyone, uncheck "Enable Buddy-Only shares" and add your shared folders to field above it.

  1. It's by design, we are not allowed to participate in the global search by the SLSK admins. On the new server (change the server port you connect to from 2240 to 2242) this doesn't seem to be a problem anymore. It's unlikely people will ban you for this though since others cannot really discover this fact.
  2. Tell them to tell their programs to parse it as UTF-8. Right now there is nothing you can do about it, we're contemplating giving you the option to specify the codepage used for sharing your list
  3. When you browse someone you can change the codepage in the top right corner - set it to the right encoding before downloading

  1. This will clutter the GUI quite a bit... we'll think about it
  2. Good idea
  3. Good idea
  4. the network doesn't support this, we cannot do anything about that
  5. Perhaps

thanks for the input :)

  1. quinox, that was true for version 1.2.9 back when I used it, but it doesn't seem to be for 1.2.10. I have a lot of users downloading from me now, none in 1.2.9.

Ack, didn't noticed the rest of your comment there. You're right.

It's me again. Use now 1.2.15 and see changes in it.

Problem 1 was solved. Thanks.

Problem 2 not solved at all: i can't see my cyrillic share and nobody can do it from outside clients.

Problem 3 was solved in a half: now cyrillic chars in folder names looks as Чубыкин, Олег? - 2007 - Турист - in this view dirs created and files downloaded successful in it. It's better than nothing ;) Interesting following: in User Browse pane cyrillic directory names looks as crossed rectangles, but file names looks right. Very strange: tempfile have right cyrillic name, but after transfer in target dir it looks as in example of directory names.

I'm hope that for win remains a little.
