Nicotine has already been packaged by josselin mouette from the debian team. A debian package is not a deb tarball with files in it. It's a complicated packaging systems with strict rules and specific tools. ITS DEFINATLY NOT A .DEB FILE ! Debian package should be distribitued as sources packages :

  • .orig.tar.gz (upstream sources tarball)
  • .diff.gz (debian packaging unified diff)
  • .dsc (link upstream tarball and diff, with md5 checks and some other stuff)

I'll update Josselin Mouette debian package to latest version and create a debian/ubuntu repository for each architecture

I have uploaded nicotine+ 1.2.4.1 to Debian.

The only remaining change is still about the icons. The Silk theme isn't free (CC 2.5) so I've used icons from the default GNOME theme instead. Don't worry about that though, the CC 3.0 licenses are going to be free.

Thanks joss :-)

Do you want me to inform you about new releases ?

Yes please, I don't think I have anything informing me right now.

YOu do, your QA page includes upstream version check through debian/watch (patch I submitted before) but I agree for now there's no email sent to maintener when uscan detects a new upstream version... So silly !

Anyway, I'll contact you when we're next to a new release, so you could check debian packaging on it before releasing the real stable version.

Thanks joss ;-)

I provide a backportable package for Debian Sarge, Etch, Sid and Ubuntu Hoary, Breezy, Dapper, Edgy for i386 and sources.

It's available on the nicotine repository. See: NicotineOnDebian.

Josselin Mouette is maintaining it the official Debian archive.
